OVOD-MD Arc Fault Protection System

The OVOD-MDArc Fault Protection System is designed to protect switchgear cells of 0.4 – 35 kV electrical substations from arc faults accompanied by an open electric arc.

To detect an arc discharge, the device uses fiber-optic sensors (VOD). The luminous flux of the arc discharge collected by the VOD enters the optoelectronic conversion units and is ultimately transformed into the closure/opening of the dry contacts of the UDZ output relays in accordance with the logic of the device.

Feature

  • High performance;
  • built-in monitoring of the device’s performance during installation and commissioning;
  • continuous monitoring of the state of the optoelectronic path up to the circuits that generate the shutdown signal;
  • protection of the input switch;
  • generation of signals “Prohibition of ATS” and “Prohibition of APV”;
  • the ability to turn off the line switch;
  • only the VOD lenses are in the arc discharge range, and the device itself (optoelectronic unit) is located in the relay compartment of the switchgear or in any other place in the relay room;
  • the length of the VOD device depends on the distance between the VOD lens and the installation site of the optoelectronic unit;
  • simple and economical installation of arc protection;
  • formation of the logic of work in accordance with the requirements of the customer or the design organization.

Applications

  • Reduce the harm of arc light to human body;
  • Reduce damage to equipment caused by arc short-circuit faults;
  • Avoid transformer damage caused by bus failure;
  • Protect the dc system in the station;
  • Ensure the stable operation of power substations;
  • Thermal power plant electrical section switchgear;
  • Wind farm and photovoltaic station switchgear;
  • Large municipal engineering project;
