SEL 651R Advanced Recloser Control

The SEL 651R offers exceptional protection and communications capabilities for Automatic Network Reconfiguration, single- and three-phase tripping, and other distribution automation needs. The SEL-651R is the first recloser control to support IEEE 1547-2018 and fast islanding detection for distributed energy resource (DER) interconnections. It also has unique capabilities to detect inrush conditions with a second-harmonic blocking element and detect downed conductors with optional Arc Sense technology (AST). These capabilities help you maintain reliable service to as many customers as possible in the event of a fault.

Specifications of SEL recloser control

  • IEC 61850 Communications Protocol
Apply optional IEC 61850 communications for guaranteed performance of substation automation and control. You can streamline configurations of IEC 61850 enabled relays with acSELerator Architect SEL-5032 Software.Mirrored Bits Communications Technology
Provide fast and reliable relay-to-relay communication for advanced communications-assisted protection, network reconfiguration, pilot protection, and restoration schemes.

    Modbus, DNP3, and ASCII Protocols
Integrate into new or existing networks. SCADA links, local human-machine interface (HMI), and dial-in modems can access important relay data with these popular protocols.

    Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP)
Simplify wiring and installation by receiving a time signal over existing Ethernet networks. SNTP makes a good backup to more accurate IRIG-B time synchronization. The 5 ms accuracy is adequate for basic time synchronization.

    Built-In Web Server
Access basic relay information on a standard Ethernet network with the built-in web server. View relay status, Sequential Events Recorder (SER) data, metering information, and settings for easy access within a local network. Web server access requires a relay password and is limited to read-only viewing of information or to secure remote firmware upgrades requiring an additional login level.

    PRP
PRP is an Ethernet-based redundancy protocol that provides seamless network failover for systems such as electrical substations. It is available as a standard option on SEL-651R recloser controls with dual-Ethernet copper or dual-Ethernet fiber ports.

    Fault Location
Take advantage of accurate distance-to-fault measurements using the impedance-based fault locator.

Per-Phase and Max-Phase Recloser Wear Monitor
Monitor breaker or recloser contact wear for each phase to assist in efficient maintenance planning and troubleshooting.

Metering and Power Quality (PQ) Monitoring
The control reports fundamental, power factor, rms, energy, max./min., and instantaneous/peak demand metering data. You can simplify power quality analysis using harmonic metering to the 16th harmonic as well as PQ analysis and PQ monitoring records for voltage sag, swell, and interruption (VSSI) and load profile reports.

    Event Reports
View the latest 1,000 event records with the user-defined Sequential Events Recorder (SER) to aid in testing and troubleshooting relay settings, to simplify post-fault analysis, and to help improve your understanding of protection schemes. The SEL-651R can capture event oscillography data in both Compressed ASCII and COMTRADE file formats. Event reports can record up to 60 cycles with a user-defined prefault duration and triggering.
