Application of ABB Motor Protection Relay
The primary safety measure for asynchronous motors and the drives that go with them is ABB Motor Protection relay.
The motor IED is typically utilized in a range of drives, including pumps and conveyors, crushers and choppers, mixers and agitators, fans and aerators, circuitbreaker or contactor-controlled medium and/or small sized motors.
The motor IED has been carefully designed to protect against earthfaults. It is possible to obtain sensitive and dependable earth-fault prevention with a cable current transformer. For earth-fault protection, phase current transformers in the Holmgreen (summation) connection can also be employed. In that scenario, the internal interlocking characteristics of the IED or an appropriate stabilizing resistor in the common neutral return can be used to prevent potentially undesirable actions of the earth-fault protection at motor start-up owing to current transformer saturation.
